The series of paintings in this exhibition were inspired by a stack of bales on top of a hill in the Irish countryside. The stack of bales resembled a building, a structure, a sculpture defining the countryside skyline. Much like buildings in a city define its skyline and identity, this one stood alone, but monumental, even if only for a few weeks.

Ricardo tries to immortalise this moment in time by developing black and white photographs, collages on paper, and video to keep the memory of this structure alive.

Ricardo’s work has always been inspired by architecture and the association of buildings with people, attributing to these buildings their own memories, identities, and individualities.

This structure, standing tall on its own, symbolises loneliness and represents how everything is fleeting — that nothing lasts forever. Within a moment, all is gone.
