Artist bio

Originally from Lisbon, Portugal, Ricardo moved to London in 1992. In Lisbon, he studied drawing and painting at Ar.Co – Centro de Arte e Comunicação Visual. After relocating to London, he studied Advertising and Marketing at the London College of Printing, complementing this with a Fine Art portfolio course at Chelsea College of Art, drawing at Central Saint Martins, and typography and graphic design at the London College of Printing — all now part of the University of the Arts London. London’s vibrant 1990s art scene was formative, shaping the foundation of his art education.

Ricardo lived in the United States from 2005 to 2014. In 2011, he drove across the country, producing a collection of paintings titled Transamerica, referencing the road trip and its architecture, and borrowing its name from the iconic San Francisco building. The collection was exhibited in a sell-out show at Galeria do Bairro Alto in Lisbon. His work is held in private collections in London, São Paulo, Milan, New York, and Lisbon.

Ricardo returned to Europe in 2014, settling first in Munich, Germany, and now dividing his time between Maganey, Ireland, and Puglia, Italy. He works as a graphic designer and has continued to develop his art practice alongside commissions and interior design projects.

Working between abstraction and figuration, Ricardo creates deeply personal works drawing on architecture, urban landscapes, and memory. His practice explores solitude, and the sense of being present in a place without fully belonging to it — rendered mostly on paper and in painted collage, using materials chosen for their relevance to each theme.
